I have always worked predominantly on a mobile basis and intend to continue in the same vain in and around the Scarborough area. Areas I cover include but are not limited to :- Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington, Humnanby, Flixton....
Although I rely on ABRSM exam centers for the most part I do on occassion use either London College or Trinity dependant on suitability to the individual student. I usually encourage students to complete exams as it's a nice mark of progress however music is, first and foremost, an experience to be enjoyed. Making music can and should be hugely satisfying and with that thought in mind, therefore, exams are for those who wish and not a mandatory part of the pathway toward becoming a musician.
Although I am establishing a new school in this area references are available from my existing pupils back in the oldham area, all of whom have expressed a willingness to act as reference should this be required. For a more in depth perspective of who I am please read my biography.
"My daughter and grandchildren thoroughly enjoy their lessons"
"Rob came to us as a recommendation from the local music shop about 18 months ago. He teaches both my daughter and grandchildren and all thoroughly enjoy their lessons. He is reliable and courteous on all occasions. He now commutes to Oldham every weekend to teach and though we wish him every success with his new school we hope it doesn't happen too fast as we know eventually we will have to find a new teacher and he will be a hard act to follow."

"He's great with the kids, they think he's great and we trust him with them implicitly"
Rob has been our family music teacher for the past 14 years, in which time he has nurtured our three (very different) children through piano, flute and music theory exams. He has even thrown in the odd cornet lesson too! He's great with the kids, they think he's great and we trust him with them implicitly. He's one of the family.

"Rob ensures that learning to play a musical instrument is fun and enjoyable"
Rob has been teaching my children for 5 years now and has built up a trusting relationship with them. Rob is conscientious, caring and sensitive to there ever changing needs and adjusts his teaching methods according to there demands. Both my children who are now 8 years and 12 years readily look forward to there piano lessons each week and always make steady progress on there work. Rob ensures that learning to play a musical instrument is fun and enjoyable, putting his pupils needs first and foremost. I would highly recommend Rob, he is an excellent music teacher who clearly loves his work, a subject indeed close to his heart.

"Trustworthy, professional, reliable, flexible, and punctual"
Rob was recommended to me almost 4 years ago by a friend of a friend to help my daughter learn to play piano. From the first lesson Rob has proven himself to be all the usual things you look for in a teacher, trustworthy, professional, reliable, flexible, and punctual but it's the extra special things he does to encourage my daughter to play that make the real difference like working at her own speed, changing tactics if needed, searching out new and interesting music books that capture my daughters imagination, knowing how to draw that fine line of encouragement rather than pressure and always taking our parental views of how we would like lessons to go into consideration. My daughter looks forward to her lesson every week. So if you looking for a talented teacher to inspire and teach then Rob is the person you need.

"I have no hesitation in commending his teaching and approach"
Rob has taught my daughter piano for over two years, following a personal recommendation. I have no hesitation in commending his teaching and approach. Rob is the most patient teacher with children, readily putting them at ease and praising pupil effort at all stages. He works in a pleasant non - pressuring way, bringing out the best in students. Always on time, never late or let down, affable and conscious of busy lifestyles and content to fit lessons in to suit. You, or your child will not go wrong with Rob as a teacher."

"At any level Rob creates a relaxed learning environment for all his pupils, whatever their age and standard"
To whom it may concern I have pleasure in recommending Mr. Rob Dawson for piano tuition. Rob has been teaching me piano for 11 years. He has also taught both my daughter up to grade 4 and my son for a couple of years until he decided he preferred playing sport to practicing! Rob has the right combination of both patience, a sense of humour and discipline both for the music and in guiding pupils. As a teacher myself I respect these qualities and have appreciated his hard work and commitment over the years. He is very accommodating and has been flexible with our family and work commitments and we have always had a good understanding of each other. He is dedicated and takes his work very seriously, as he is a talented musician himself who has a wealth of experience in playing both solo and within orchestra and band. Rob clearly thrives on music and continues to work at improving his own level of play, including taking exams himself. However while he enjoys encouraging his pupils, he does not insist the exam route unless they are interested. Although he takes exams very seriously and once committed to a date he works very hard to get the best possible grade. At any level Rob creates a relaxed learning environment for all his pupils, whatever their age and standard. He is able to pitch his teaching strategy and aim at the right level for all his pupils to reach their full potential. The pupil just needs to do the practice!

"He doesn't get cross with me and I've learnt lots"
Rob is kind and explains things well. He doesn't get cross with me and I've learnt lots. (A bit from mum) Rob is reliable and very patient! My son looks forward to his lessons and is keen to practice because he wants to impress him.

"Rob has kept the balance of learning music and fun very well"
I have had the pleasure of having Rob teach my 13 year old son, Varun, Piano for the last 3 years. Varun has enjoyed learning from Rob from the start. He was successful in first two grades with distinction. Rob has kept the balance of learning music and fun very well. Rob is a kind teacher who recognises Varun's reactions and acts appropriately to help him progress in a stress free environment. Rob has been flexible in his lesson timings and always tries to accommodate lessons when changes are needed. I also appreciate his feedback at the end of each lesson which keeps me up to date with Varun's progress. I would highly recommend Rob and will be willing to talk if someone so wishes.
